Gardening, Cultivating, and our Thoughts

I just started gardening and can’t help but notice how much easier it is to pluck a weed when it first sprouts and it’s roots have yet to take hold. Weeds that I’ve missed, or decided to pull later, are so difficult to remove. They hang on for dear life, taking all of my might or the assistance of tools to pull.

Gardening can be likened to the cultivation of thoughts. Dismiss negative thoughts immediately when they come to mind rather than ignoring them while they take root and proliferate. We may feel like we are doing ourselves a favor by ignoring what is right in front of us, or inside us in this case, but either way the weed has to go! Whether it is an easy job or a difficult one is entirely up to us!
